COMMONLY ASKED ROOFING & REMODELING QUESTIONS

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions about roofing and remodeling for your home or business. If you have a question that we did not answer below, don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to answer.

  1. How long do roofs typically last?

Properly installed roofs are made to withstand more than a decade of natural weathering and erosion. If nothing goes wrong in the first 12 years after your roof was installed, you should be fine. After 12 years, you will want to have it inspected to make sure there are no significant issues that need to be addressed.

  2. How can you tell if your roof needs to be replaced?

The most common reason your roof will need replacing is age. A roofing contractor may also recommend repairs along the way to prolong the life of your roof, depending on the condition of and/or damage to your exact roof.

If you live in Houston or along the Gulf Coast, we recommend getting your roof inspected after a major storm, such as a hurricane. Extreme weather conditions can damage your roof and make it susceptible to furthermore significant damage.

Signs of a roof nearing the end of its life include:

    • Curled, cracked or missing shingles
    • Faded or discolored shingles
    • Granule loss from shingles found in your gutter systems
    • Cracks or holes in your roof
    • Peeling or blistering paint, which could be a sign of poor roof ventilation
    • A sagging roof
    • Water leaks

If you notice any of these, we recommend you get a professional inspection. The team at All Roofing will conduct a thorough roofing inspection and provide every solution in our toolkit based on our knowledge of engineering. Our in-house insurance estimator can also help you navigate any insurance claims you may have.

  3. What makes a roofing contractor legit?

There are three main indicators: insurance, certifications, and online digital profiles.

Only legitimate roofing companies offer open roof insurance. This is in the case that if your roof somehow opens and it rains, you are covered. The roofing companies that do offer insurance provide a standard plan at or less than $500,000. Moreover, their subcontractors should also be insured. At All Roofing, we offer $1 million open roof insurance. Even more, all of our subcontractors are ensure, leaving no room for possible holes in your claims.

Another way to verify a company is to look at their certifications. The industry-standard certifications are earned through GAF, the largest roofing materials supplier in North America. The highest certification a roofing company can have is GAF’s Certified Master Elite® Roofing Contractor, which All Roofing & Remodeling has.

The third and final way to make sure a roofing company is legitimate is by checking websites like Angie’s List, HomeAdvisor and the Better Business Bureau.

  4. What’s the best type of roof for my home?

Figuring out the best type of roof for your come comes down to the ventilation. Our team calculates this in the engineering phase. The pitch of your roof (how low or steep your roof is) also makes a difference in the type of roof you need.

For Houstonians and other Gulf Coast residents, however, there are several other factors roofers need to consider:

    • If you opt for shingles, you will need six nails per shingle instead of the standard four.
    • You will want a roof that withstands tropical storm winds (130 mph) so your roof will not blow off. This is done through a pounds per square foot reading, which we would be happy to explain in further detail to you.

  5. How long will a roof replacement take?

A roof replacement can take as little as 5 days and up to 2 weeks, depending on the complexity of your roof and the material you want to use. Shingled roofs are much quicker to install. They can be completed in a day or up to 3 days for a more complex roof.

All Roofing can walk you through nearly every roofing material and help you determine which is right for your needs. We offer residential roofing services as well as commercial applications.

  6. What do I do if my roof is leaking?

Call your roofer as soon as you can. Water damage can pose a serious health and safety risk if left unchecked. Excess moisture from a roof leak, a pipe bursting or recent flood damage can all promote mold growth, damage your electrical infrastructure, and even cause structural damage to the property and foundation. The extent of damage relies on how quickly you are able to identify the signs and call a professional. Do not ignore the signs.

When it comes to insurance claims, it can be a slippery slope. Water damage is often covered on your homeowner’s insurance if the cause of damage is “sudden” or “accidental” like if a pipe burst or a washing machine hose leaks everywhere. However, it does not cover all types of water damage.

At All Roofing, our in-house insurance claims adjuster will be as transparent as possible, assessing the damage before you submit a claim so you can have the best outcome possible.

  7. Do you have a warranty program?

Yes, all of our work is backed by manufacturers’ warranties. In fact, we offer the highest warranty protection available by GAF, the Golden Pledge Limited Warranty. For commercial properties, our work certified by GAF can be warranted for up to 30 years.

Moreover, we are also the recipient of GAF’s Consumer Protection Excellence Award for our utmost protection of customers.

  8. Do you fix structural damage to my roof and frame?

Yes! The All Roofing & Remodeling team can fix both the roof and the structure. Fixing the roof is included in our roof repair package. If your home needs further assistance, such as replacing rotten wood and framing, that will be taken care of by our home remodeling team, which is an additional service we offer.

  9. How much does a new roof cost?

This is the most asked question we get by far. However, it is difficult to provide a blanket answer since pricing is determined by so many different factors. Common things we look at to determine the price of a roof include:

    • The system
    • The roof pitch (how steep)
    • The location
    • The materials
    • The design
    • Edges cuts

At All Roofing, we are always transparent about our pricing and are glad to provide you with a free estimate for your roofing project. In addition, we do not charge you until the job is done.
