Roof Inspection Services in Houston and Surrounding Areas

The residential and commercial contractors at All Roofing & Remodeling service many types of roofs, hitting every mark on our comprehensive roof inspection checklist to make sure it’s sound.

Our Inspection Specialists Spot Roof Problems Before It’s Too Late

The majority of people can easily identify roof damage and then request a quote from a professional roofer. But there are lots of problems not necessarily visible to the untrained eye. This is especially important after a severe storm like a hurricane or a hail storm, where more than just a few shingles could have been affected. Or in the case where you’re moving into a new home, where it might not be so easy to tell a roof’s age or quality simply from the ground.

In either case, you want to make sure your roof is in good condition before moving forward. The All Roofing & Remodeling team has worked with hundreds of Houston residents and businesses to fully inspect roofs and give them an honest answer. Using our checklist below, we’ll provide you with a detailed report that will inform you of:

  1. The current condition of your roof
  2. The age, material, and quality of your roof
  3. What, if any, repairs will be needed to fix the issues
  4. How much it will cost to fix

Our Comprehensive Roof Inspection Checklist

The All Roofing team can inspect all residential and commercial roof types, whether it’s shingles, metal roofing, or some other material like bitumen or thermoplastic that’s common for business establishments.

Exterior Inspection

We’ll check the condition of the following parts of your roof:

  • The roofing type: shingles, wood, stone, clay, plastic, metal, synthetic, etc.
  • Gutter systems to make sure they’re clean and properly draining water
  • Gutter systems for shingle fragments, which is an indication of age and weathering
  • Nail placement, which is essential for roof performance
  • Any discoloration or fading of your shingles or roof
  • Loose, missing or curled shingle bits
  • Any signs of wear and tear on non-shingled roofs like terracotta, slate or polymer
  • Cracks or holes in the roof
  • If the roof is sagging any other shape besides horizontal
  • Moss, lichen, or algae buildup, which can promote bacteria and mold growth inside
  • All exterior attic openings that ensure good airflow
  • Water damage like rot or moisture collection
  • Seals between the chimney and roof
  • Soffits and fascias (the undersides of your eaves)
  • Flashing (the material between a roof and a wall)
  • Gaps between the fasteners that secure pipes and ventilation
  • Peeling or blistering paint, which could be a sign of poor ventilation and mold growth
  • Ponding of water on a flat roof
  • Corrosion (if metal)
  • Alligatoring (for bitumen surfaces), which is an indication of age/maintenance

Interior Inspection:

We’ll check the condition of the following parts of your interior attic space:

  • Roof leaks
  • Signs of moisture buildup or mold, which could be a sign of poor attic insulation or moss and algae buildup in the shingles
  • Check the kitchen and bathroom exhaust vents to ensure a proper seal
  • Check if there is any sagging decking between the rafters
  • The condition of your attic
  • Structural deformities, if any

Of course, each roof is different, so this checklist will vary roof to roof, but we wanted to give you a transparent, general overview of what we look for so that you can feel confident in our services.

How to Tell if Your Home Needs a Roof Repair or Replacement

Generally, you don’t need someone to inspect your roof on a regular basis. Roofs are made to withstand years and years of weathering before it’s time to replace them entirely. However, there are some things you can check for if you aren’t buying or selling a house or did not just undergo severe weather like a hurricane, a tornado, or hail.

  • These include:

    • Curled, cracked, or missing shingles
    • Faded or discolored shingles
    • Granule loss from shingles found in your gutter systems
    • Cracks or holes in your roof
    • Peeling or blistering paint, which could be a sign of poor roof ventilation
    • A sagging roof
    • Water leaks

If you visibly notice any of these, it might indicate you need a roof repair or your roof’s ready to be replaced.
